Acoustic disturbance in blue mussels: sound-induced valve closure varies with pulse train speed but does not affect phytoplankton clearance rate

چکیده
Abstract Anthropogenic sound has increasingly become part of the marine soundscape and may negatively affect animals across all taxa. Invertebrates, including bivalves, received limited attention even though they make up a significant biomass are very important for higher trophic levels. Behavioural studies critical to evaluate individual potentially population-level impacts noise can be used compare effects different sounds. In current study, we examined effect impulsive sounds with pulse rates on valve gape behaviour phytoplankton clearance rate blue mussels (Mytilus spp.). We monitored mussels’ using an electromagnetic monitor their spectrophotometry densities in water. found that was positively correlated rate, but exposure did not significantly or reduce mussels. They close valves upon onset train, majority individuals recovered pre-exposure levels during exposure. Individuals were exposed faster trains returned baseline faster. Our results show exposures differently, which should taken into account pollution impact assessments mitigation measures.

Cognitive load makes speech sound fast, but does not modulate acoustic context effects
In natural situations, speech perception often takes place during the concurrent execution of other cognitive tasks, such as listening while viewing a visual scene. The execution of a dual task typically has detrimental effects on concurrent speech perception, but how exactly cognitive load disrupts speech encoding is still unclear. The detrimental effect on speech representations may consist o...
متن کاملLipopolysaccharide does not affect acoustic startle reflex in mice.
Bacterial endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide; LPS) evokes in rodents an adaptive sickness behavior. It also produces changes in stress hormones secretion and activity of brain serotonergic and noradrenergic systems that have been implicated in stress responses, fear, and anxiety. Acoustic startle reflex (ASR) is regarded as a protective behavioral response that is enhanced in threatening situations ...
متن کاملTemperature-induced elevation of basal metabolic rate does not affect testis growth in great tits.
The timing of reproduction varies from year to year in many bird species. To adjust their timing to the prevailing conditions of that year, birds use cues from their environment. However, the relative importance of these cues, such as the initial predictive (e.g. photoperiod) and the supplemental factors (e.g. temperature), on the seasonal sexual development are difficult to distinguish. In par...
متن کاملCEP2 Attenuates Myoblast Differentiation But Does Not Affect Proliferation
CEP2 (CDC42EP2) is a member of the CDC42 subfamily that belongs to the Rho family. The Rho family plays an important role in a variety of cellular processes including skeletal myogenesis. Here, we find the expression of CEP2 increased significantly during C2C12 myogenesis. Overexpression of CEP2 could attenuate myoblast differentiation, while knockdown of CEP2 by siRNA results in enhancing myog...
